God Hears Before Words

 Let’s look at prayer through the eyes of Hagar. In Genesis 16-Scripture doesn’t record her offering words  of prayer in that moment of distress. 

She just ran. 


Running from the one she felt mistreated by.


No words, just cries.

She collapses by a spring, completely exhausted.

And that’s when God speaks.

He doesn’t say, “I heard your prayers.” He says, “The Lord has heard your affliction.”


The Hebrew word for affliction is oni and it refers to, poverty, or misery, stemming from a root meaning to be bowed down, depressed, or under pressure. 


It describes a state of being pressed down by hardship or oppression. It describes pressure that shapes posture.

Something carried over time.


Something that bears down on the inner and outer life.

God said, “I hear what is crushing you.”

“I see what was done to you.”


He took our cry on the cross.

Our cry became His cry.

On the cross, Jesus steps fully into the human experience of pressure.


So our hearts cry, “Abba, Father.”


We are heard, we are known

God is not absent because of the situation.


He is present inside it.

So rest. 


He declares our condition healed and whole, and invites us to agree with His word over our own experience.


In the provision that has already been made in Christ!

Our Origin

  I wrote this in my journaling time this morning, and it stayed alive in my heart: Our origin isn’t Adam. Our origin isn’t dust. Our origin isn’t the fall. Our origin is the Logos — the eternal Word — the Christ in whom everything finds its source.

Rise Into the Life Already Within

I was reading John 5 the other day, and something opened up in me. It says the sick and hurting were lying under the shade of the porches by the pool of Bethesda . When I sat with that, I saw a picture of people living under a shadow, right beside the temple, waiting for something outside of them to happen. Almost leaning on something external to change what they felt powerless to shift. It felt like an image of the old system… people sitting under an identity that kept them powerless. Resting in the shade instead of noticing the Light already within them. And Jesus walks straight into that shadowed place. The true Temple. The fullness. The substance. In the Greek , His words are simple: “Rise… walk.” Both are resurrection words — awaken, be lifted, step into newness.
